Outgrowing Your Motorcycle Part 2

We will call friend number two Mindy. Mindy is 5’3” and 130lbs wet. We were talking on the phone today and I asked if she finally purchased her first motorcycle. She said, “No, but I want a 750.” I was hoping she meant a 750 cruiser but she doesn’t. She wants a 750 sportbike because everyone told her they outgrew theirs in the first year. That’s B.S. I wrote about this once before but she obviously didn’t ready my blog so where we go again.

Let me stating the major differences between the 600 and the 750s and 1000s.

The bigger bikes accelerate faster and have a higher top speed.

If you understand the gearing on a 600 you can minimize the differences in acceleration. The advantage the 600 has is you can get the throttle wide open right now without giving serious concern to doing a incidental wheelie. ITry that on the bigger bikes I may be reading about you in the Dayton Daily News or see your bike in parts on the nighty news.

My 600 tops out at 165 mph. My 1000 tops out at 189 mph from what I hear but I’ve only taken it to 178 mph. You will rarely have enough road to find your top speed and even when you do have enough room most riders don’t have the intestinal fortitude to go there.

I have more to say on this subject but I don’t want to wear out my welcome in one shot so I will write a part three to this later.

Shiny Side Up!

Joe
