Oregon Express adds open mic night

From now on Wednesday nights at the OE will be an open mic night or what the club is calling the “Oregon Experiment.”

The new night, which will be hosted by the bar’s sound engineer Jay of Fab Gear, begins this Wednesday, April 2nd, and will be back weekly.

The shows will begin at 9 pm with sign-ups for solo performers and small groups. The scheduled order will be on a first come first serve basis.

The Oregon Express is conducting this “experiment” in part to discover new talent.

The OE wrote on www.myspace.com/oregonexpress that, “if we like what we hear from the open mic bands then we will have them come back for a Saturday Night show where they can make some money.”

I think this is a great idea for the OE. Open mic nights often help involve artists and fans who might otherwise not get involved. It is a safe way to transition from the garage to the stage.

Other open mics (or similar concepts) happening this week: Canal Street Tavern hosting ‘Musicians Co-op’ this Tuesday April 1st with host Sharon Lane. Trolley Stop hosting ‘Rev. Dave Live’ with host Reverend Dave on Thursday, April 3rd.
