Pryor sees himself fitting in at OSU

Terrelle Pryor of Jeannette, Pa., the top senior prospect in the nation, has kept folks in suspense throughout the recruiting process, adding and subtracting schools as if they’re cards in a gin rummy game.

But he’s always had Ohio State in his top five, and the athletic 6-foot-6, 220-pound quarterback spoke favorably of the Buckeyes in a Pittsburgh Post-Gazette article today.

While Michigan (a school Pryor is visiting this weekend) can offer a chance to start immediately, the presence of veteran QB Todd Boeckman at OSU isn’t a deterrent.

Pryor said he could see how an arrangement with Boeckman could work, citing the way Florida called on the mobile Tim Tebow as a freshman to complement drop-back passer Chris Leak during a national title season in 2006.

“If I don’t start, if I don’t win the job, I’d like to be like Tim Tebow was his freshman year,” Pryor was quoted as saying. “If I don’t win the job, maybe I can play a role like that.

“If they need a key first down, they throw me in there. It would give me exposure, give me a feel for the way the college game is played.”

Not that the competitive Pryor is conceding the starting job to the OSU senior.

“If that was the school I choose, I’d battle him,” Pryor said. “Whatever school I go to, I’ll battle for a position. They’re one of my top schools, but it’s not just for them. Wherever I go, I’d like to battle for the position.”

Michigan folks will no doubt fawn over Pryor this weekend and could sway him in their direction. He also has a visit left to Penn State.

But we probably can glean from those comments that he’s at least thinking very favorably about OSU at this point. And given what the Buckeyes have coming back next season, he could be just what they need to get over that national title game hump.

Signing day, though, isn’t until Feb. 6. And for Buckeye fans, that’s going to be a suspenseful two and a half weeks.

Why does Dayton think they belong in the Bucknut Nation ? Dayton is really a northern Cincinnati suburb and should only have stories on Cincinnati and Dayton. Plus, this kid is going to Michigan where he can start 2 or 3 years and move on to the NFL. Doesn’t want to be associated with the Buffalo Bills of College Football - aka Ohio State Bucknuts ….

Fredo, You sound like a transplant to Dayton. Dayton ios Buckeye country. If Pryor truly does want to compete he will turn down Michigan since the newly imported coach cleared the way by telling the incumbent QB to transfer.

Yes, your right, he would much rather go to UM and loose to App. St. than go to back to back NC games and loose. And I see how he wouldnt want to be like Troy Smith and have to carry that Heisman and have all those gold pants charms. He will want to be a QB more like Chad Henne and suffer defeat 4 times at the hands of the Buckeyes. And Dayton belongs in the “Bucknut Nation” simply because some of the top players thumping on UM the past years have been Dayton area grads.

Fredo is most likely a jealous loser. He sounds like the type that does nothing else but sit around and try to drag everyone else into his loser life. Pryor is coming to OSU. I know for a fact he has confided in Tress quietly that he is coming. He is simply playing the field to get as many trips out of it as he can. He plays the game, baby. Fredo needs to get smart and if you cant beat them, join them…

Dear Frodo- I, being Jim Tressel, Head Football Coach at THE Ohio State University, love that Dayton is part of Buckeye-Nation. We get some great recruits from there (i.e.: Todd Denlinger). So please go back to the Shire. Go Bucks, Jim Tressel

Why do you think Pryor is waiting so long? First he wanted to see what the Buckeyes did with the backup situation. Redshirt Freshman Antonio Hinton is the backup. Second, who is his competion at UM going to be, noone. All roads lead to Ann Arbor for Terrelle.

Hey Fredo, Thanks for the encouragement. You can always tell you’re doing well when everyone else has a reason to complain about you.

You’re all missing the point while ripping on each other. Rodgriquez being the new coac at UM is exactly why Pryor will go to Ann Arbor. Pryor is said to be a capable dropback passer, but an excellent director of the spread offense. Guess what kind of offense Rod is bringing to Michigan. Mallett left because he knew he can’t run that offense. Pryor will slide right in naturally.

To put some perspective on this latest recruiting buzz, note Bob Hunter’s (Columbus Dispatch) recent article that noted: The Detroit Free Press recently reported that none of the past five top-ranked high school quarterbacks has yet achieved All-America status. Some have been only average or haven’t played. That said, I would nonetheless prefer that Pryor chooses OSU to complete an exceptionable recruiting class. If Pryor comes with the right attitude, cool. But, if he thinks the world revolves around him or he doesn’t want to be a Buckeye, I don’t sweat his going elsewhere. Ohio State can win with him or without him.

OSU has no shot at a NC game next year or for about 5 years! They are this years Hawaii undefeated with no chance at a NC game. Nobody wants to see them get beat again! P.S. Pryor will go to michigan because he doesn’t want to be caught up in the NCAA violations that OSU is facing!

OSU will be top 5 with as good a shot as any. Tressel will develop TP into an NFL talent. Michigan sucks.

What you people fail to realize is that the NFL does not want “system quarterbacks”. Do you really think that Pat White is going to be a pro quarterback. That is not happening. Terrelle sees what Tressel and Bollman did with Troy Smith (recruited as an athlete and not a quarterback) and he will be a better NFL prospect with the Bucks. Sorry scUM faithful, Terrelle will be with us. He wants to be the best quarterback he can be, not the best spread option athlete whos only shot at the NFL is at a wide receiver! GO BUCKS!!

TP is going to be a Buckeye. He will be an excellent college quarterback and will be the crowning jewell to the nation’s top-rated class.

First of all I hope young Mr.Pryor is looking at Education over sports. Yes No matter where he picks to go he’ll get a good education. But let’s face the facts they may have lost in the last two BCS Champion games. BUT WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME MICHIGAN WENT TO THE GAME?

Pryor is NOT going to Michigan. The Wolverines lost 4 games last year and most of their offense (Henne, Manningham, Hart, Long, Arrington) leaves. Plus, their backup Ryan Mallett transferred to Arkansas and their other two backups are talking about transferring. And there is no credible QB to run RRod’s spread. scUM is going to be HORRRIBLE in 2008.

OSU: 3 NC games in the last 6 years. They were favored once, underdogs twice and are 1-2 in those game. In the last 6 years, the Buckeyes are 4-2 in Bowls including 3-2 in BCS bowls, 5-1 vs. Michigan, have won 4 Big Ten titles, are 67-11 overall and have had 12 players drafted in the 1st round of the NFL draft. Pretty good.

IF OSU IS SHOWING INTEREST IN RECRUITING ONLY ONE QB (TERRELLE PRYOR), THE COACHING STAFF MUST KNOW THEY HAVE A GOOD CHANCE TO LAND TP . OTHERWISE THERE MIGHT BE MORE THAN ONE QB RECRUIT ON THEIR LIST. GO BUCKS AND OSU STAFF!

OK, we’ll concede that UM has a good program, But so do many other schools like OSU, LSU, Texas,USC etc. Pryor will be an excellent addition to any school he attends.
