DeWine on McCain’s ‘conservative problem’
While working on a piece on the two U.S. presidential parties’ efforts to set up camps in Butler County (read that post here), I spoke briefly to Mike DeWine, former U.S. senator and chairman of John McCain’s election committee in Ohio.
DeWine dismissed the argument that McCain will have a problem motivating conservative voters to show up at the polls — something local Democrats are hopeful for in this conservative county — citing the following issues:
McCain was instrumental in getting Supreme Court judges John Roberts and Samuel Alito on the bench. “He helped engineer basically an agreement that allowed the president to appoint conservative members to the court,” DeWine said.
McCain said he would only appoint strict constructionists to the Supreme Court.
“John McCain is the one person in the Senate that has stood up year after year…and criticized pork-barrel spending,” DeWine said.
McCain wants to make President George Bush’s tax cuts permanent.
What do you think? Does McCain have a “conservative problem” locally?

McCain does have a conservative problem locally, but not near as much of a conservative problem as Obama has… Butler County Republicans are going to come out for John Sidney McCain because the alternative would be very destructive to the conservative agenda. With all of Obama’s flip-flops (chronicled here: http://massdiscussion.blogspot.com/2008/06/collection-of-obama-flip-flops.html ), Obama not only has a conservative problem, but now he has a liberal problem too. Nobody knows where he stands on the important issues of the day and all you 527 media types can do is gush over his nuance. The American people don’t want nuance, they want their commander-in-chief to be decisive. Butler County Republicans know that McCain will be strong on the issues that matter the most. Liberals can’t say the same about Obama…By John

I count myself as conservative and I’ve not missed voting in an election in 35 years. I’ve also never voted for a democrat in a federal election (congress or president), but I will not be voting for John McCain. Four years of the democrats in charge and the republicans will come back with winning conservative movement.By Matt Hurley

John, Republicans held on to a majority in Congress for about decade or so…but if you look at what has happened historically, shifts in majority in Congress takes several decades. The White House is our best bet of keeping the radical socialist agenda that the Democrats under Barack Obama want to impose on every American citizen, including you. A vote for Barr or Nader is a vote for Obama and George Soros. It may pain you to do so, but if you really are the conservative that you say you are, you have but one choice on the ballot this fall: John Sidney McCain.By John

McCain is so all over the map there is no telling who or what he’ll appoint to the high court. I’d just as soon take my chances with Obama.By Savanation

“you have but one choice on the ballot this fall: John Bush McCain.” Sorry, I just had to make that change. You wouldn’t. But it had to be said. If you loved Bush, you will love McBush. What could be better than a few thousand more dead soldeirs who can’t say: George, yoiu idiot, I didn’t sign up to be killed for your lies! If you loved Bush’s record debts and china owning more of America than the Americans, then you will love McBush. And Lord knows, if that damn Constitution has been getting in your way and yopu just have to torture someone, ole flip flopper John McBush is just your man. “They want their commander-in-chief to be decisive”, well, hell yes, and if old John forgets or doesn’t know who our troops are fighting, no problem, Lieberman will be there to whisper the answer in his ear.”Butler County Republicans know that McCain will be strong on the issues that matter the most.” Like lowering taxes in a time of war. Damn straight, why should us loyal Republicans pay for nutty George’s video game when we can put it off on our great great grandchildren. Hell, You don’t even know them, so it can’t hurt. Besides, that crazy Obama (you know his middle name is Hussein?)wants to give tax beaks to people making less than $250,000 a year. Now why should poor people like that get a tax break when you need to buy a bigger Lexus and your wife has her eye on that villa in capri. How dare that socialist Obama try to do something like that. So all the right thinking Republicans out there, you better straigthen up or that BOY will be taking the caviar out of your mouths. Gee, I was funnin you. Of course, you knew his middle name is Hussein. That’s your big selling point for McBush. Good luck, Mr Conservative Agenda. BTW is that like the Gay Agenda? I have a hard time telling them apart. You know, Larry Craig and all that.
