Odom on Cincy: ‘I love it here’

Antwan Odom wanted to break out of the long shadow cast by the Tennessee Titans’ one-two punch of Kyle Vanden Bosch and Albert Haynesworth, and impact a new defense.

He came to the right place—-the Cincinnati Bengals.

Instead of jumping on a plane bound for Phoenix on Monday night, he chose to sign a five-year, $29.5 million contract that includes $11.5 million in guaranteed money with the Bengals.

How do you fall in love with a place like Cincinnati in one day?

“You just do,” Odom said after his introductory news conference at Paul Brown Stadium on Tuesday, March 4. “You just feel it. It just feels right. This is a family-oriented organization. Everybody in here is family. That’s how I think.”

Odom is eager to play against his former team because he never got the respect he felt he deserved in Tennessee. The Titans visit Cincinnati for a game in 2008.

“I’ve got a little unfinished business,” he said. “I’m glad to be here. I love it here. Me and my family, this is our home. We’re going to make it our home.”

Odom and his wife, Brooke, have four children—-sons A.J., 4; Baylor, 3; Jo Jo, 2; and daughter Missy, 7 months.

This is the year the Bengals have to have a knockout defensive draft and land a dynamic playmaker who other teams have to gameplan around. If that happens Odom and Geathers (and maybe with luck, Brooks and Thurman) can create some havoc. Sans playmaker its more of the same.

He sounds a lot like the man he replaces, Justin Smith,a man with a passion for football & he loves Cincinnati. What’s not to like? Also, he’s young, athletic, on the upswing. I like the move. Good solid, signing. I do hope the get a DT like Robertson or at least are able to draft someone like Ellis from USC.

Sure Odom loves Cincy right now,,give me all that money and I will love it too…Trust me,,Mike Brown could destroy Paradise and no amount of money will prevent it….By December Odom will hate this place…

Good signing. This doesnt fix the defense though. We are very weak up the middle. Thornton is a solid rotation DT and Peko is a decent back-up. We also have no idea who our MLB is. Brooks has some talent but hasnt played for two years and I wonder if he’ll ever play much. You have to be strong there and we arent. We had a chance to get better and the Brown family circus blew two deals to get better at DT. If Odom is our offseason, then we’re hurting. Brown better open up the wallet for somebody with a mean streak to play over center and take up double teams or this D will be just as bad as it was last year.
