Seen & Overheard at Bengals minicamp

‘WHOLE FRANCHISE ON HIS SHOULDERS’

—-Quarterback Carson Palmer is a two-time Pro Bowler. His brother, Jordan, cut by the Redskins in 2007, is fighting for a job.

“We’re not only two different people, we’re in two different situations,” Jordan said. “He’s got the whole franchise on his shoulders. I’m trying to get back in the league.”

—-Offensive tackle Anthony Collins looks like a Day 2 draft steal.

“He’s an athlete,” said Dave Lapham, analyst on the Bengals radio network. “To see him play, it’s hard to believe they got him in the fourth round.”

—-Linebacker Keith Rivers, who wears No. 58, is negotiating with Ahmad Brooks to get the “55” he wore at USC.

“I’ve got another month to work on him,” Rivers said.

—-Has wideout Jerome Simpson’s instant popularity made him a cult figure?

“Unfortunately, no,” coach Marvin Lewis said. “It doesn’t affect what occurs. But I think Jerome will show well as he goes forward in his career.”

—-Rivers, Simpson and Andre Caldwell got head starts on the rookie class. All three “were FedEx’d packages overnight (after the draft),” Lewis said.

Ahmad Brooks should do everything he can right now to make everyone happy. Give Rivers the 55 shirt and maybe You’ll make the team.

Isn’t Ahmad Brooks in trouble with the law? Perhaps he will be giving up #55, not by choice. Wondering if Odell Thurman will try to top Ahmad’s mischievous behavior.

Cut Ahmad, hes in trouble, hes hurt, and he hasnt produced anything when he does play. Weve got a good start foor our linebacking core now; WLB-Jones, MLB-Rivers, SLB-Thurman… Right there youve got 2 first rounders and a dmn good veteran calling the shots, and with our secondary coming into there own and an addition to the D-line i think weve made a valient attempt at revamping what we called a defense last year, im not saying well make the playoffs this year (but next year teams better beware) Especially with jumpin Jerome goin across the middle like Ward, it will free up TJ to show us what hes got in the open field.

I realy like what the see in this draft class. This is by far the best job on draft day from coach Lewis and his staff. I think we hould have drafted Murice Purify because Mario Urrutia should have been a prioriy free agent.

I like what I see and know, so far. It’ll take a couple of years to figure them out, for sure.

From the Bengals website video I can see Rivers and Sims starting right away. Heads and shoulders more fundamentaly sound than the others at their positions. Shirley you can’t be serious. Simpson dropped the first ball thrown his way. But he went and did 10 push ups and didn’t drop another.
