Nail trimming = traumatic experience
I cut my dog Lexi’s nails last night. She hates it, but I don’t know many dogs who really enjoy it.
After the trauma was over, I decided to look at possible alternatives to the scissor-like clippers I use. I have used the guillotine-style as well, but that one is harder for me to use because I can’t see the quick as well or judge the distance as well. So I went online to find something different.
Quick Finder is a guillotine-style, but has a quick locator, kind of like a stud-finder for walls.
I saw a commercial recently for Peticure. It is a grinder. I am hesitating in getting a grinder, because it seems like the grinding would take even longer and my dogs won’t sit still that long. And I’m not sure I can handle the “nails on a chalkboard” feeling I would probably get using it!
I try to clip one or two of Hannah’s nails a night so it isn’t so traumatic. But Lexi won’t have any of that. So I have to ambush her every few weeks and put her on the counter to clip them all at once.
Lexi bites her nails at times. i just wish she’d do a better job and actually trim them when she bites them!
Does anyone have any tried and true ideas you use clipping your dog’s nails? Which trimming method do your dogs prefer?
