Dog saved by Marine gets home in US
This story about a stray dog in Iraq who followed a Marine over 65 miles is just a nice story. The dog was befriended by Marine Maj. Brian Dennis, who would feed it scrapes of food. He named the dog Nubs because his ears had been cut. The dog would follow the Marine around on his patrols.
Dennis found Nubs one day on the brink of death after he had been stabbed by a screwdriver and was nearly freezing. He nursed the dog back to health. But then it was time for the Marines to move back to their command post around 65 miles away. The dog was left behind, but amazingly the dog tracked them all that way and found Dennis.
Since military policy prohibits having pets in war zones, Dennis, with the help of family, friends and a Jordanian veterinarian, was able to get Nubs sent to the United States to a colleague of Dennis’ who will help train the dog. The dog will be reunited with the Marine when Dennis gets home in March.
