City impound lot
Looking for additional general fund revenue, City Council will likely approve the creation of a city impound lot at council this Wednesday.
Based on figures by Economic Development Director Tim Bigler, the city thinks it can make about $400,000 a year with such a lot. View Bigler’s figures here: impound lot estimates.pdf
Council discussed the item at its special council meeting Friday. Though, City Manager Mark Brandenburger floated the idea a few months back. When the idea first surfaced, it caught the ire of local impound lot owners. The city currently contracts the service out to private companies.
Brandenburger estimated that if the city opted in favor of an impound lot, it could be established within 90 days.

It’s hard for me to realize that the Government is taking over private business. What’s next? Maybe they should take over Wal Mart. That should generate lots of money. Works for China. Don’t you think you have enough problems running the city without taking over people’s business’s? Without competion and a monoply is created it hurts everybody. You can just name your price and if you don’t like too bad. That’s why our country has survived for so many years. The governents job is not to be in business it is to govern. Shame on you. Remember what country your living in and if it were your business that was about to be taken over how would you react?
