West Freshman renovations | Lakota Schools News and Issues

BACK TO SCHOOL!!!!

In case you haven’t noticed, Lakota students are back in school today. Traffic was definitely heavier with everyone on the road this morning. I dropped into the new East Freshman building, and students were picking up their schedules. The atmosphere was definitely charged with excitement. I am heading over to West to see the new renovations. I will be interviewing some Lakota East jazz students that made it into the state honor band, and I may just head to one of the elementary school buildings for lunch.

What kinds of back-to-school stories would you like to see? I would love to hang out at a bus stop for the first day of kindergarten? Any takers?

West Freshman renovations

Bidding will start this April for the West freshman renovations. By May, the board expects to execute contracts and by June construction will begin. The goal is for occupancy by August/September of 2008. The design includes an elevator for students with disabilities, remodeled classroom space and updated science classrooms.

The design might include classroom enlargement in the old stage area, cafeteria enlargement, two classroom conversions and parking lot improvements.

This project will begin just as the East Freshman campus building opens. Also taking place will be renovations to the Liberty Early Childhood School. While it is under renovation, students from the school will move to the new building that will eventually replace Union Elementary. How will the building shuffle affect you next school year?
