Wind happens

I am borrowing my title from a co-worker who wants to make this a T-shirt.

Anyway, I just got an update for you from Lakota. All buildings now have electricity. Plains was the final building to get on board, and it is also the one with the most damage. A hole in the roof has been fixed. Officials said to expect school tomorrow, but an announcement will be made between 6 and 8 p.m. tonight, Sept. 17. They are waiting on a final road report to ensure they are safe for bus travel. Not sure if you saw the article on our site, but a wire hit a Mason bus today. The children were safe, but the potential danger was another reason Lakota made the final call last night to cancel. All the food is back in the building except for Plains. There are milk deliveries happening, and some buildings will have more supplies than others. For that reason, all children can expect a lunch, but it won’t coordinate with the meal calendar and it may be different depending on what each building has in stock. All the milk and ice cream got thrown out.

Lakota board tonight

The board will meet tonight at the Central Office. The meetings, which begin at 7 p.m., tend to last several hours, but they do have some interesting content.

Tonight, several students will be honored for their art exhibitions. Two students will be recognized for their geographic bee state championship awards, and the 50th Anniversary and Lakotafest committee members will be honored.

If you are interested in curriculum, the board will see a presentation on some proposed text books, including elementary statistics and new pre-k curriculum.

If the idea of policy meetings makes you want to sleep, stay tuned for some updates on the highlights. I will spare you the trauma of sitting through the LOOOOONG meetings, if you keep reading my posts. There most likely will be some changes to the cell phone policy. You may also see some changes to the discipline policy, naming policy and grade scale.

I am working on some future stories to keep you appraised of the new board committees that are making decisions for the district. Let me know if there is a particular group you want to know about. Most likely I will feature the funding committee, student success committee and the district parent council.

Also, stay tuned for the 2007 High School Engagement survey to find out what high school students think about Lakota.
