What’s new
I called each of the Lakota schools to find out what is new around the district. I learned there are some pretty interesting things happening. Find out more in the back to school tab Aug. 14, but for now, here are some highlights.
Wyandot Early Childhood School Lakota parent David Wilson, of Wilson Art Works, has created a giant mural of a beach boardwalk on the school’s playground.
Shawnee Early Childhood School Parents will notice quite a few changes this year, said new Principal Ronda Reimer. The first one will be the expanded parking lot. Once inside, they will notice a freshly painted interior, courtesy of teachers and staff members who joined with contractors this summer to get the job completed. The halls are now color-coded by grade level.
Cherokee Elementary School The tutoring program Whiz Kids is launching this year with the help of area churches and Leadership 21, a program through the West Chester Chamber Alliance, said Principal Jennifer Forren.
Endeavor Elementary The Endeavor Elementary Parent Teacher Organization has been named Outstanding New Parent Group in the Parent Group of the Year search for “PTO Today.” It will be featured in the Sept. 2008 issue.
Woodland Elementary Principal Linda French said besides a coat of new paint, the biggest change in the building will be new Assistant Principal Paulette Grady, former mentor coordinator with the district.
Lakota Ridge Junior School In addition to the new Butler Tech Pathways class, students also will notice a new math lab for intervention and an English as a Second Language unit that will feed into Lakota West, said Principal Andre Gendreau. Students will have the option to join Power of the Pen, and more math competitions as part of student engagement to increase academic, social and athletic activities.
Liberty Junior School Students will have new lockers in the building this year.
Union Elementary It is the final year for students to hold class in the nearly 100-year old building, said Principal Bob Winterberger. He will be joined by new Assistant Principal Pamela Hudson.
