Home purchase fraud

This week I wrote about a Hamilton County woman who owns almost $5 million worth of real estate in Warren County, homes she has never lived in and cannot afford. The bank has filed for foreclosure on two of the homes and her credit is in ruins. She trusted her tax man, Eric Duke, who said he needed her good credit to buy the homes and that he would take the homes off her hands and earn her some money within three months. Has anyone else run into this sort of situation before?

Finance committee considers admissions tax

The Mason City Council Finance Committee will discuss an admissions tax on such venues as Kings Island and The Beach, on Monday, May 5 at 7 p.m. This issue has arisen several times, but nothing has come of it. Business owners plan to attend the meeting to voice their misgivings. Increased admissions - percentages haven’t been decided - they say will adversely impact other businesses who benefit from the tourists who flood into town. Is a tax reasonable? Mason officials have said the city has to spend extra on police, fire and road improvements because of the entertainment venues. If it is, what percentage would be acceptable?
