Goodbye deep fry
The Carlisle school district is saying goodbye to its last deep fryer.
The high school is home to the district’s last deep fryer, which will be replaced in August with an oven, the food service director reported at Monday’s school board meeting.
She said nutrition is her biggest concern, but noted healthy items like salads and wraps are gaining popularity with students. She also said the district is offering whole grain pizzas with low fat cheese.
I’m planning to run a story about nutrition at our local districts in the newspaper this weekend, so if you have any comments, any items you or your kids like from the cafeteria, or tips on how you get your kids to eat healthy, send me an e-mail or leave a comment here.
