No more smoking

Cigarette breaks between classes may be no more for Miami University Middletown students, as a new policy prohibiting smoking almost everywhere on campus takes effect today.

Smoking is no longer allowed on Miami campuses, except in personal vehicles and some hotel-type spaces.

I stopped by MUM Thursday to talk with some students about the new policy. Signs were already posted on campus, but outdoor ash trays were still next to benches on campus.

One girl who said smoking is “disgusting” said she was happy about the change. Another (nonsmoker) said the policy was a step too far, and “not fair” to smokers.

What do you think of the ban?
