Monroe’s Christmas on the Plaza
Even though it is August, Christmas is in the hearts and minds of some Monroe residents.
That’s because planning is beginning this week for Monroe’s second annual “Christmas on the Plaza, ” which is scheduled for Dec. 13, in front of the city’s administrative offices on Main Street.
The Optimist Club of the Monroe Area is holding its first meeting to begin planning the event at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 7, in the James Monroe Community Room at the city’s administrative offices, 233 Main Street.
The event, which is sponsored by the city of Monroe and the Optimist Club, is designed to provide a Christmas celebration in the community for the holiday season.
Cherie Gentry, the chairwoman of the event, said the club plans to contact a family that offered to donate a Christmas tree last year even though weather prohibited the top portion of the tree from being cut down.
Gentry said the club and city decided to get an early start on the event because plans call for it to be bigger and better this year.
Volunteers are being sought to help plan the event.
So if you have ideas on how to make the event better or want to get into the holiday spirit early or you would just like to help plan the holiday celebration, call Gentry at (513) 850-1954 or E-mail her at gentryca@bhg.org or call Darrel Basford at (513) 600-3528 or E-mail him at dbasford@cinci.rr.com. And remember, there are 142 days before Christmas!
