Sign of the times

Official Piqua signs are starting to crowd the entrances to the city.

Call it pride.

At one city entrance, the official welcome to Piqua sign is followed by a historical plaque commemorating the Mills Brothers, followed by another making sure the visitor knows the city is the hometown to Olympic hockey player Kristen King, followed by another honoring Brandon Saine as Ohio’s Mr. Football 2006, followed by another announcing the city is the home of the 2006 Division II state high school football champions.

“It’s almost like those old Burma Shave signs,” a smiling City Manager Fred Enderle said.

And if the school district does well on the next state Report Card, the city could add another sign: Home to an Excellent School District.
