Obama proposes partnership with faith-based groups
Democrat Barack Obama says that as president he’ll establish a Council for Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships to promote “bottom-up” help for the needy.
Obama made the proposal in remarks prepared for delivery Tuesday, July 1, in Zanesville where he’s to campaign for president at the East Side Community Ministry, which provides food, clothing and other assistance for those in need.
Obama said the partnerships would honor the separation of church and state.
“…if you get a federal grant, you can’t use that grant money to proselytize to the people you help and you can’t discriminate against them - or against the people you hire - on the basis of religion,” he said in the prepared remarks.
Obama said Republican President Bush’s Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives “never fulfilled its promise.”
“Support for social services to the poor and the need have been consistently underfunded,” he said.

So, Ethel, you are against “Abstinence Only” programs which are pushed by “Faith based” extremists? So, Ethel, you are against calls for Constitutional amendments against Gay marriage which are shouted for by religious hypocrites? So, Ethel, you must be against those who would use our government to reach into our bedrooms and doctor’s offices and tell us what we can and can’t do with our bodies? So, Ethel, you are against Bush stopping the research on cures for millions of dying and hurting Americans? It would seem that that these should be your positions. Period. Right?By Ethel S.

It is my position that faith-based programs have no place in government funding and/or programs. Period.By Savanation

Ah, Ethel, silly as usual. President Obama has found one thing that might have been good about Bush’s administration IF it had been done logically and legally and professionally. Thank the Lord, President Obama to correct Bush’s mistakes and do what is best for the country. And his idea about how to utilize faith based outlets is both reasonable and encouraging after eight years of Bush’s misuse of religion. I am sure you will agree.By Ethel S.

If Sen. Obama gets elected President, he plans on taking a page out of GWB’s handbook and keep the faith-based programs for his administration. Both would be very disappointing.
