Services set; education fund created for Todd Nikolai’s daughter
First, let me thank you very much for the comments that pay tribute to Todd Nikolai, the 40-year-old wine Vintner Select employee and wine enthusiast who formerly ran Dorothy Lane Market’s wine department in the Oakwood and Washington Twp. stores and who passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday. The comments will, I’m sure, comfort Todd’s family, as well as all of us who knew him, and I am deeply appreciative that you’ve chosen to share them here on Uncorked. Please consider adding a comment if you haven’t already done so.
Second, the obituary for Todd Nikolai appeared in this morning’s Dayton Daily News and online, and it lets everyone know about services (visitation Friday afternoon, Mass of Christian burial Saturday morning). Note also that a fund has been created to help pay for the education of Todd’s 3-year-old daughter Carina. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to any First Financial Bank for the Carina Nikolai Education Fund.

Todd was one of the first retail sellers I dealt with. He was the only reason I purchased wine from Dorothy Lane years ago. He was patient, funny, and I felt like he cared about me. He loved wine and loved life. I was very saddened when I found out that Todd had passed. I will raise a glass tonight and toast to one of the good guys! God Bless you Todd!By chiefwino

In further tribute to Todd, we would like to ask your assistance with a gift for Carina and Wendy. Since Carina is so young, the day will come when she starts to ask more questions about what her father was like. We are creating a “time capsule” or memory box for Carina Nikolai. If anyone would like to share a special memory, picture or story with Carina and Wendy, please bring them to the visitation or funeral and place it in the designated box. When the time is right, Wendy can use your words and loving memories to help paint a picture of Todd for his daughter. Thanks for your assistance and spread the word to others who want to help Carina remember her Dad.
