If convicted, Gay faces 5 years in prison.
Gay also faces trespassing, stalking and fleeing and eluding charges in Montgomery County, authorities said.
Gay, appearing Thursday morning in Warren County Court in Lebanon via video, said he will be represented by attorney Chris Epley.
Judge Donald E. Oda II set bail at $100,000 and scheduled Gay's next hearing at 3:45 p.m. Tuesday. He also issued a protection order for the girl and her family.
Police said Gay was lurking in the girl's yard and tried to enter the home a neighbor who has a protection order against him in Montgomery County.
Police began chasing Gay about 9 p.m. after dispatchers were called about an attempted abduction.
Springboro police pursued Gay from the Settlers Walk subdivision to Ohio 741, north to Pennyroyal Road and Clearcreek-Franklin Road west of Interstate 75, where officers from other police agencies used Spike Strips to flatten the tires on Gay's car.
Gay continued to drive on the vehicle's rims until he crashed on
Wood Road.
Gay ran about 200 feet before he was caught by officers near I-75, according to police reports.
