There are many interests and activities that allow Garden Manor Retirement Community residents Marcia and Glenn Greenham to remain active and happy.

The Greenham's have been married for 53 years. Glenn has been a Middletown resident since 1949. And, as residents at Garden Manor for three-and-a-half years, they still enjoy a very busy, yet healthy lifestyle.

The couple live in a two-bedroom deluxe apartment, but they rarely spend too much time at home. From line dancing and playing Bridge to watching some of the local entertainment that comes in to entertain the residents, going to the YMCA, or eating out on a regular basis, the couple still seems to be able to do it all.

When it comes to tips to other seniors, Marcia says to choose a style of living that meets your needs. Garden Manor offers studio, one-bedroom, two-bedroom and two-bedroom, deluxe apartments. You can live independently, but it is also good to know there is 24-hour care available if you need it.

"Glenn has Parkinson's, and he was getting to the point where he didn't like to be left alone," said Marcia Greenham. "We found that by moving into an apartment here, that we could be together. Here, the assisted person and the independent person can live in the same apartment, so we decided to sell our home and move in."

She also said it is good to get involved in some of the different activities that are offered both at the center, and out in the community.

But not everything they do is so ordinary. Marcia's a pilot, and at 74, she still takes time to fly. In fact, she is gearing up for a trip with a friend to a pilot convention in Denver.

She spent much of her professional career as a full and part-time nurse until 1975. She also got a pilot's license in 1969. And, in 1980, she earned her flight instructor's license, and she's been flying ever since.

"Flying started out as a hobby. I enjoyed it so much, and I had opportunities to continue to get additional ratings, and then I realized that I really found my niche," said Marcia Greenham.

For part of his career, Glenn and his brother, Herschel oversaw McCoy Oil Company, and in 1972 they sold it. Glenn then went to Clark, Schaefer and Hackett Accounting Firm, where he spent more than 20 years with the company. Now at 84, he exercises every day, listens to music and enjoys playing cards.

The Greenham's have two children, Roger Greenham of West Middletown and Ruth McIntosh of Blanchester, and five granddaughters.
