LONDON — The U.S. dollar was higher against other major currencies in European trading Thursday. Gold rose.
The euro traded at $1.5699, down from $1.5888 late Wednesday in New York. Later, in midday New York trading, the euro fetched $1.5686.
Other dollar rates in Europe, compared with late Wednesday, included 106.69 Japanese yen, up from 105.99; 1.027 Swiss francs, up from 1.0142; and 1.0214 Canadian dollars, up from 1.0122.
The British pound was quoted at $1.9816, down from $1.9936.
In midday trading in New York, the dollar bought 106.72 yen and 1.0275 Swiss francs, while the pound was worth $1.9801.
Gold traded in London at $939.75 per troy ounce, up from $936.00 late Wednesday.
