Stars come out to support Joe's dream
Friday, March 09, 2007
FAIRFIELD — The new Oscar Center ballroom at Jungle Jim's International Market in Fairfield will be awash in stars Thursday April 5, and more than a few dreams.
The Joe Nuxhall Character Education Fund will launch its drive that night to raise $7.5 million to give hope to children and young adults. Joe Nuxhall, Hamilton native and Fairfield resident, is celebrating his 63rd year in baseball with a grand vision to build a facility at One Way Farm to help abused, neglected, sick and disabled children.
Extras
His goal is simply stated: To inspire hope in the hearts of children and young people who've had it taken from them.
To help him achieve that, a roster of celebrities and sports figures, including Nick Clooney, Bob Castellini, Doug Pelfrey, Kurt Weingand of the Procter & Gamble Co., Chris Welch and many more, will be on hand beginning at 6 p.m. for a reception and progressing to a silent auction, which includes a Caribbean cruise and a bronze statue of Joe. There will be speeches, refreshments, jokes, entertainment and a few tears.
Tickets are $125 a person, $200 a couple or $1,000 for a table of 10, and must be purchased by March 29. For information call 984-1200 or email kking@dhadv.com. Make checks payable to the Joe Nuxhall Hope Project.
