Fairfield city, township candidates emphasize qualities

Thursday, November 01, 2007

We asked each candidate in Fairfield city and township races, "What is the one thing voters need to remember about you as they go to the polls next week?"

Fairfield School Board of Education

Extras

Diana Bailey

"I pledge to represent and work for all of the people of the Fairfield School District. I will work hard to protect the future of our children and am willing to hear all sides of every issue. I have a compassionate concern for our senior citizens and all taxpayers and will push for a sensible way to fund education. Please put our children's education first, vote positive on Nov. 6, vote Diana Bailey for Fairfield School Board."

Jerome Kearns

"It's about the kids. Do you want Fairfield Schools to strive for excellence or do you want our schools to settle for the minimum state standards? If you want our schools to constantly strive for excellence and offer our children a high-quality education then vote to put me on the Fairfield School Board."

Robert Maloney

"We will hold the superintendent accountable for achieving and maintaining an 'excellent' rating for our school district. If elected this new board pledges no more operating levies and keeping a balanced budget without sacrificing any extracurricular activities."

Erik Rivera

"I represent all the citizens of Fairfield including those with or without children in our schools to ensure that our educators teach effectively. I am pledged to balance the budget with no new operating levies and restore our school district's lost 'excellent' rating. By ensuring the best possible education this community can afford (and not the fictional state minimum we've been accused of) and trimming needless waste, I will ensure improved education in the hard economic times that are ahead."

Fairfield City Council Second Ward

Don Hassler

"I'm fighting to protect property values in the Second Ward, to see that zoning laws are enforced and take a conservative approach to municipal spending. This current council is ready to spend 3 million taxpayer dollars to remodel the city building. I think there are better uses for that money, such as hiring a full-time zoning inspector to enforce home maintenance codes and to hire more police officers to patrol the residential areas."

Marty Judd

"This race is all about the people of the second ward. I have a proven track record of getting things done in this part of the city. There are a lot of projects currently on the drawing board I would like to see completed in the next four years. More importantly, I am always willing to listen to my constituents and their concerns."

Fairfield Twp. Board of Trustees

Joe McAbee

"The current board of trustees has a proven record of working to develop a thriving, sustainable and affordable community where you can raise your family in a clean, safe and fun environment. We have worked on many projects, such as township basketball league, brought in YMCA, Wal-Mart, Bridgewater Falls. We have the best fire and police protection. We've kept the township taxes low and we have a $13 million cash balance as of the end of September."

Terry Scharnhorst

"The first thing that Fairfield Twp. voters should know is that the only way to achieve a real zoning plan, a responsible budget that actually has a plan to pay for public safety and a traffic plan that will end gridlock is to make a positive change — I have a plan that will address these issues. Secondly, voters should know who endorses me — both current township trustees, the township's fiscal officer, our retired Fairfield Schools superintendent, even The Ol' Lefthander Joe Nuxhall, among many other community leaders — and I have earned their trust because they have faith that I will be a true leader for the community."

Fairfield Twp. Fiscal Officer

Nancy Bock

"Accountability and dependability: I have proven myself to be a responsible steward of the Fairfield Twp. taxpayers' money. I promise to continue to provide what the taxpayers expect to have in a fiscal officer. Two terms of fiscal excellence have proved that."

Joe Ebbing

"I hope voter's remember that I am the best choice because of my education, experience, and integrity. To understand, evaluate, and render their own conclusions, I hope that every voter would visit fiscalofficer.info."
