Oxford's Comprehensive Plan Update is beginning to take form.

Members of the plan's steering committee met Tuesday, April 22, to review what ACP Visioning & Planning representative Aaron Domini referred to as "the hardest chapter" of the document: Land use.

Domini said the steering committee has an ambitious schedule before it, with members slated to work through four more chapters of the plan at their next meeting. Steering committee members were provided with copies of the plan, with previous objectives written in black ink and new items designated by red.

"Those chapters are going to be more of a strategic update," he said. "It's going to be a lot more black than red on the page."

Discussion topics included the preservation of green spaces in town, the preservation of the city's natural areas and a comparison of in-fill development and outward expansion. Several steering committee members also voiced concern over a contentious "node" on U.S. 27 south of Oxford.

Committee members agreed to relocate the node from the west side of the roadway to the eastern area, as it would better coincide with the general business plot currently before City Council.

The committee plans to meet with city council before a May 6 meeting, holding a work session to discuss the group's progress on the update.
