Motorist ran red light before colliding with school bus

By Staff report

Friday, August 29, 2008

HAMILTON — A motorist was injured after running a red light and colliding with a school bus early Friday morning, police said.

Damerll A. Ball, 36, of the 4900 block of Buckhorn Drive in West Chester Twp., was taken by ambulance to Mercy Hospital Fairfield Friday, Aug. 29, after colliding with a Fairfield School District bus at around 6:42 a.m., according to Hamilton police.

No children were on the bus at the time of the crash, and the school bus driver, Leroy Havens, 63, of 3400 block of Northland Drive in Hamilton, was not injured, police said.

Police said Ball was traveling west on Symmes Road in a 1986 Volkswagon Jetta and failed to stop at the traffic light on the Ohio 4 Bypass. Ball's vehicle crashed into the school bus, which was turning north onto the bypass from eastbound Symmes.

Ball, who was treated and released from the emergency room, was cited for failing to stop at the red light, said Hamilton police spokesman Dave Crawford.
