Park to crack down on speeders

By Staff report

Friday, August 29, 2008

COLLEGE CORNER – Officers at Hueston Woods State Park will conduct a traffic enforcement blitz this Labor Day weekend, Aug. 29-31, as a reminder to motorists to slow down and observe traffic safety laws when driving in the park.

The effort is part of a statewide safety program initiated this summer at state parks. The program will feature increased patrol activity by park officers today, Saturday and Sunday. Since parks attract a wide variety of visitors using the roads, from bicyclists to joggers and many children, traffic safety is a priority for park officers.

"Our focus is not on writing a pile of tickets, but to help remind motorists that when they obey the law they are having a direct impact on the safety of our visitors as well as themselves," said Assistant Manager Patrick Boryca of Hueston Woods State Park. "We want this to be a positive program that results in fewer accidents and speeding."
