Waynesville picks Crozier for boys hoops coach

WAYNESVILLE — Cory Crozier has been named the new boys basketball coach at Waynesville High School, succeeding Dr. John Murphy. Murphy, a longtime coach in the area with previous stints at Stivers and Bellbrook, retired and moved to Tennessee.
Crozier guided the Spartans freshman team to an 11-10 record last season.

Crozier, 33, previously served as an assistant at Ridgeville Christian for one year and Dayton Christian for three years. He is excited about his first varsity head coaching job.
"I'm a very enthusiastic coach, and I hope it rubs off on my players," said Crozier, a Cedarville University graduate. "I inherit a senior-heavy team (that went 13-9), so we'll be able to play uptempo with pressure and create some havoc."
He said his biggest challenge will be to "raise the expectation level of all the players."
Crozier expects Waynesville to be a stalwart again in the Buckeye Division of the Southwestern Buckeye League. The Spartans built a strong winning tradition under Murphy and Jim Philpot, winning five straight titles from 2001-06.
