EUGENE, Ore. — Mason High School graduate Angela Bizzarri finished 13th in the finals of the 5,000-meter run Friday, July 4, at the Olympic Track and Field trials.
Bizzarri, who just completed her sophomore season at the University of Illinois, turned in a time of 16 minutes, 3.99 seconds in the finals at the University of Oregon's Hayward Field.
Kara Goucher won the race in 15:01.02.
Bizzarri reached the finals with a personal-best time of 15:45.78 in the semifinals.
She placed second in the 5,000 at the Big Ten meet and in the NCAA outdoor championships this spring. She was named an All-American in cross country and indoor and outdoor track for the Illini, becoming the first athlete in program's history to be a three-time All-American in the same school year.
She recently won the Dike Eddleman Award as the University of Illinois Female Athlete of the Year.
Bizzarri is a 2006 Mason graduate. She won six individual state titles — two in cross country and four in track and field — for the Comets.
