"For my first time, it was a blast," said Jones, a Shawnee High School grad. "We hit it right on the nose for the feature."
Jones finished second in the heat race and started the feature on the outside pole. He grabbed the lead right away and led all 40 laps.
"After 10 laps, we started to take it easy," Jones said. "It worked out great. You've got to have luck on your side."
Jones currently is in first place in the USA Modified Series. The first two races of the season were rained out.
Jones, who is sponsored by Ted Beach, Premiere Tree Service, Lawnmasters and Charlie's A-1 Auto Body, ran an Eddie Flora-built motor in the No. 2 car.
"He built us a monster this year," Jones said. "It did well at Salem."
Jones said he plans to run the first five races and may race the entire series depending on sponsorship.
"We're going to try to if the money is there," Jones said. "I'd like to run for Rookie of the Year and hopefully a championship. It always helps winning the first race."
