LEMON TWP. — A 16-year-old Trenton youth died early Saturday morning, Nov. 22, after he and three others were struck at about 6:30 a.m. by a vehicle near the Trenton bridge on Oxford State Road.

Monroe police said Nathanial Cameron, 16, a junior at Edgewood High School, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Aaron D. Vance, 21, and Richard P. Briscoe, 18, were flown by medical helicopter to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton.

Briscoe, a senior at Edgewood, and Vance, an Edgewood graduate, were both in serious condition late Saturday, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

Edgewood grad William D. Mayers, 18, was transported by ambulance to Atrium Medical Center in Middletown, where he was treated and released.

Mayers, who was only scratched in the incident that seriously injured two of his friends and killed another, said the group of four friends had decided to go fishing at the Great Miami River, according to WKRC-TV Local 12. Mayers also told Local 12 the friends had planned to join the U.S. Navy together.

The four were walking along Oxford State Road in the westbound lanes in the pre-dawn hours, said Monroe police Sgt. David Chasteen late Saturday.

Monroe police would not release any information about the driver of the vehicle that struck the pedestrians.

Chasteen said following the accident, the vehicle remained at the scene, in front of S&S Construction & Pools, 41 Oxford State Road, and all of the parties had been accounted for.

"Everything is still pending," said Chasteen, who said the incident remains under investigation by a countywide accident investigation task force that includes Butler County Sheriff's deputies.

Edgewood High School Principal Bob Buchheim said the young men "were the kind of kids you never heard a peep out of, except to say 'hello' or 'have a good weekend.'"

Buchheim recalled Cameron as "a nice, cordial kid who had a good, close-knit group of friends around him all the time."

Buchheim said Briscoe "is a very popular senior" and is a lot of fun.

"He's the kind of kid who will see you in the hall and strike up a conversation," Buchheim said. "He's really a neat kid."

Buchheim said at a recent motivational assembly at the school, Briscoe got up and did some break-dancing in front of everybody.

"He really impressed everyone," Buchheim said.

The Edgewood Crisis Team of school counselors and area pastors will be at the Edgewood Middle School media center from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. today, Nov. 23, for students and community members, said district spokesman John Thomas. The crisis team also will be available at the high school on Monday for students and staff, he said.

"Anytime we lose a life of a student or a community member, it's a very tragic situation," Thomas said.
