Barbara Joly, of 5008 Victoria Ave., was released at about 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, from the Warren County Jail in Lebanon after posting $10,000 — or 10 percent of the $100,000 bond set, according to officials.
Joly is accused of entering the Huntington Bank, 340 S. Main St., at about 1:33 p.m. Friday and handing a teller a note. A different bank employee, who saw Joly drive away, called police, Lt. Gerald Massey said on Friday.
The Franklin Police station is within two blocks of the bank.
Joly was stopped in her car just minutes later by police a few blocks away on Fifth Street, Massey said.
Joly is slated to appear at 4 p.m. Tuesday for arraignment in Franklin Municipal Court on the charge of aggravated robbery, a first-degree felony.
If convicted of the charge, she faces three to 10 years in prison and up to a $20,000 fine.
Authorities say Joly seems to fit the description of two other so-called "granny robberies" of banks in Lebanon and Mason.
"We don't know that (Joly was involved in other robberies) but it's certainly uncommon, but not impossible for elderly females to be bank robbers," Massey said. "Any bank robbery where an elderly female is involved, it would be reasonable to take a look at her."
Police said she did not have a previous record of any criminal or traffic cases against her.
Police in Lebanon and Mason have unsolved bank robberies in which the suspect was an older woman wearing a scarf and sunglasses. On Sept. 24, U.S. Bank, 620 Columbus Ave., in Lebanon, was robbed by a woman described as between 60 and 70 years old. On May 29, the People's First Savings Bank, 225 Reading Road in Mason, was robbed by a woman described as being around 50.
In each of those robberies, as well as the Franklin robbery, the elderly woman gave the teller a note but did not display a weapon.
Franklin police said the Friday incident remains under investigation.
