Madonna’s doing fine, thanks for asking

madonna.jpg

Madonna is doing her best to get through her split from husband Guy Ritchie — with a little help from ex-husband Sean Penn, according to a source close to the singer.

“It’s a sad situation, but she’s not heartbroken,” says the source, who saw the 50-year-old icon hours before a London court granted the couple a preliminary “quickie divorce” on Friday, Nov. 21. “She’s handling it well.”

Madonna is focusing on her work and her children to keep her mind off the end of her nearly eight-year marriage to Ritchie, says the source. “She’s got a very busy life.”

Also helping her through the tough time is her ex-husband. The singer and Penn were spotted having drinks at the Greenwich Hotel in Manhattan on Wednesday night. “They have a nice rapport,” says the source. “There’s nothing romantic there. They’re just good friends.”

Travis Barker files suit over plane crash

fd5c02cf-12de-4c2d-8ae5-4c41b5f8e638.jpg

Musician Travis Barker sued companies linked to a plane that crashed in South Carolina, injuring him and killing four people, two of whom were his friends. The former Blink-182 drummer sued the plane’s owners, Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co., and an airplane maintenance company, on Friday, Nov. 21, seeking more than $25,000 in damages.

Barker’s suit claims the companies improperly operated and maintained the Learjet that overshot a runway and burst into flames on Sept. 19 in South Carolina. The crash killed the two pilots — Sarah Lemmon, 31, and co-pilot James Bland, 52 — Barker’s assistant, Chris Baker, and Barker’s bodyguard, Charles Monroe Still Jr.

Barker is seeking damages for pain and suffering, disfigurement, loss of earnings, and medical and legal expenses. Still’s mother, Thelma Martin Still, joined Barker in the lawsuit and is suing the companies for damages including grief and sorrow, funeral expenses and loss of earnings.

Barker and celebrity disc jockey DJ AM were both injured in the crash. The pair had performed together the night of the crash and were flying back to Los Angeles.

Michelle Williams tears up over Heath

s-HEATH-large.jpg

Michelle Williams has started doing publicity for her upcoming independent film “Wendy and Lucy” and broke into tears during a Newsweek interview when the subject of her ex-fiance Heath Ledger, dad to daughter Matilda, came up.

Here’s an excerpt:

Williams is jovial and chatty, until the conversation turns to Heath. You can see it’s still difficult for her to talk about him, and she hasn’t done so publicly until now. The first time Ledger’s name comes up, she bursts into tears. “It’s so sad,” Williams says. When she’s asked about how she’s been doing in the past year, she’s silent for a very long time. “I guess it’s always changing,” she says. There’s another pause. “What else can I say?” Her voice is breathy and fragile, and she takes a few gulps of air. “I just wake up each day in a slightly different place—grief is like a moving river, so that’s what I mean by ‘it’s always changing’.” She stops again. “It’s a strange thing to say”—her words unravel slowly, her eyes tear up—“because I’m at heart an optimistic person, but I would say in some ways it just gets worse. It’s just that the more time that passes, the more you miss someone. In some ways it gets worse. That’s what I would say.”

Nicollette Sheridan + David Spade = ???

nicolette_sheridan240.jpg

Nicollette Sheridan had a special guest at her party to ring in turning 45 — a possible new beau in David Spade.

Celebrating her birthday at new L.A. hot spot Luau with Desperate Housewives costars Felicity Huffman, onscreen husband Neal McDonough and Kyle MacLachlan, the newly single Sheridan at first played it coy with her man of the evening.

“They arrived separately and even started dinner at different booths,” says an onlooker. It was a familiar scene: The duo were spotted a couple of weeks ago at the restaurant’s opening, where they spent the night in deep conversation. This time, though, things got a little more intimate. “They cuddled and kissed,” says an onlooker. “They were full-on making out in a booth.”

Decked out in a sequined gold frock, the birthday girl sipped on lychee martinis throughout the night and giddily enjoyed a specialty cake that read “Happy Birthday Princessa.” Adds the onlooker, “David winked at her and stood by her side while she blew out her candles.”

Name expert weighs in on Bronx Mowgli

A baby name expert is weighing in on Bronx Mowgli, the newborn son of Ashlee Simpson-Wentz and Pete Wentz.

“I’d say that in the world of unusual or bizarre baby names, this is the biggest double whammy since Moxie CrimeFighter [daughter of magician Penn Jillette] and Pilot Inspektor [son of actor Jason Lee],” Linda Rosenkrantz, co-author of The Baby Name Bible (and online baby guide Nameberry.com) tells Usmagazine.com.

So where does Bronx come from?

“Bronx — named after early Dutch settler Jonas Bronck — follows in the footsteps of that other NYC borough, Brooklyn, but is not likely to set off a baby name fad as Brooklyn has,” Rosenkrantz adds.

(Victoria and David Beckham named their nine-year-old son Brooklyn after the area of NYC in which he was conceived.)

Brooklyn is more popular than Bronx because it “has a soft, feminine sound — in fact it’s No. 57 on the girls’ popularity list and seen by some parents as the combination of two female names, Brooke and Lynn,” Rosenkrantz says.

“Bronx has a much harsher, grittier sound, and the nickname Bronxie has something of a negative feel,” adds the expert.

But Bronx “follows the tradition started by the Jolie-Pitts of x-ending boys’ names, such in Maddox, Pax and Knox … and the trend for ‘place names’ like Kingston and Paris,” Rosenkrantz points out.

What about the babe’s middle-name, Mowgli?

Jodie Sweetin splits from hubbie

jodie_sweetin240.jpg

Former Full House star and new mom Jodie Sweetin is splitting with her husband.

Sweetin, 26, filed papers in Orange County, Calif., for legal separation from Cody Herpin, 31, whom the actress had once called a “blessing” who helped turn around her life after years of methamphetamine addiction. The couple became parents of daughter Zoie in April.

“I was dumbfounded,” Herpin told People magazine, adding that Sweetin left their home and took their 7-month-old girl. “Over this past month something has been different. I’m concerned about our daughter and I just want (Zoie) home.”

Sweetin’s agent, Stella Alex, says the actress is “absolutely clean” and that the couple have “come to this path in their life and she felt like this is the way she had to go. Jodie says it’s unfortunate but it’s just what has to happen right now. No more detail, only because she says she doesn’t want to be disrespectful to him.”

The pair were married in July 2007 and recently announced they were working on a reality show together.
