Fans of former radio announcer Joe Nuxhall will get another chance beginning Monday, Sept. 1 to make the late Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame pitcher a finalist for the 2009 Ford C. Frick Award.
The winner will be recognized in the broadcaster's wing of the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York.
"I think his best shot at it was last year," said son Kim Nuxhall. "I know (Butler County Commissioner) Greg Jolivette was determined to keep it rolling."
The commissioner led the charge last year to push fans to vote for the Ol' Lefthander to be a finalist, hoping that public support would convince the voting electorate to give him the nod.
Fans can vote one time every day in September for Nuxhall or one of the other 209 broadcasters eligible for the Frick award. The top three vote-getters will be finalists with seven other broadcasters, whom are chosen by the Hall of Fame research team. Results of the online voting will be announced after September, and the 10 finalists will be announced on Oct. 6. The winner will be named on Dec. 9.
This is the fifth consecutive year fans had a vote in determining three of the finalists.
Last year, Nuxhall garnered more than 82,300 online votes placing him on the 2008 finalist list of 10 broadcasters to be voted on by a 20-member electorate, which includes past living winners and five veteran historians and veteran media

After spending 15 of his 16 major-league seasons in Cincinnati, Joe Nuxhall hung up his spikes and picked up a microphone. From 1962 until his retirement in 2004 he was a familiar voice to Reds fans. Nuxhall was twice a finalist for the Hall of Fame's Ford C. Frick Award for baseball broadcasters. He received 82,304 out of about 122,000 votes cast in fan balloting for the 2008 award, but he was passed over, with the award going to Seattle Mariners broadcaster Dave Niehaus.
