MUH cruises to 22-9 with sweep

HAMILTON — The Miami University Hamilton baseball team improved to 22-9 Saturday, April 19, sweeping a doubleheader from visiting Southern State.

Kevin Collett struck out seven and got the mound win in the opener, an 8-2 decision. Matt Mays was 2-for-3 with a home run, four RBIs and two runs, and adding to the offense were Jason Gray (double), Curtis Blank (two hits, triple, two RBIs), Anson Hall (double, RBI), Steve Adams (double) and Cory Murden (triple).

Brian Stephens was the victorious pitcher in the nightcap, a 16-1, five-inning rout. Leading hitters for the Harriers were Joe Sullivan (two hits, home run, two runs, three RBIs), Blank (home run, two RBIs, two runs), Damien Hannah (two hits, two runs, three RBIs) and Anson Hall (two hits, two runs, RBI).

MUH visits St. Catharine College (Ky.) for a doubleheader today.

RedHawks blanked at Buffalo

BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Miami University baseball team managed just five hits Saturday and dropped a 3-0 Mid-American Conference decision at Buffalo.

Tommy Nurre doubled and singled for the RedHawks, who fell to 11-25, 3-11 in the MAC. The Bulls are 10-23, 4-9.

Chris Niro and Steve Antoniotti combined for an eight-hitter with nine strikeouts for MU. They allowed just one earned run.

Kent nips Miami in MAC softball

KENT — The Miami University softball squad fell to 19-20, 9-4 in the Mid-American Conference with a 3-2 loss to host Kent State on Saturday. Both runs for the RedHawks were unearned, and they managed just three hits. Meredith Linch pitched a five-hitter in the losing effort. The Golden Flashes are 30-9, 12-3.

MUH softball splits with UC-Clermont

CINCINNATI — The Miami University Hamilton softball lost its first of two games to Cincinnati-Clermont 9-7 Saturday at Tealtown Park, but bounced back to win the second one 13-11 in eight innings.

Sarah Pressler went 3-for-4 with two doubles and two runs, while Jen Mollmann was 2-for-4 with a three-run home run, a double and three RBIs in the loss for MUH.

Robin Suttmiller earned the win in the second game and helped her cause by going 2-for-2 with an RBI. Samantha Helton was 3-for-5 with two RBIs and Courtney Rubio was 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs.

MUH improved to 3-3 overall. UCC is 5-3.
