Tippecanoe too much for Greenon

SPRINGFIELD — Greenon girls' basketball coach Gary Falkenbach knew Tippecanoe had a lot of weapons.
The Red Devils showed them all on Thursday.
Greenon sophomore Allie Turner scored 19 points and Kyra Dorney added 18 points, but the Knights fell to Tippecanoe 74-49 at Greenon High School in Central Buckeye Conference action.
Jess Pierre had 25 points for the Red Devils, who had dropped back-to-back games to Kenton Ridge and Miami East. Abby Dowd and Danielle Ross each had 11 points for Tippecanoe (6-2, 6-1 CBC Kenton Trail).
"I knew they were a good shooting team," Falkenbach said. "They didn't miss in the first half."
The Knights, who fell to 6-3 and 3-3 in the CBC Mad River Division, struggled to score in the first quarter and trailed 15-7 after one quarter.
The Red Devils were also able to hold Turner, who came into the game averaging an area-best 27.4 points per game, scoreless in the quarter.
However, Turner heated up in the second quarter, scoring eight straight points to pull the Knights' within three at 18-15.
But the Red Devils responded with a 16-4 run and led 33-19 at the break.
Turner scored all 12 of the Knights' points in the second quarter.
The Red Devils did a great job scoring in the paint against Greenon's 2-3 zone. The much-taller Red Devil squad also dominated the boards, holding Greenon to one shot, while putting back several rebounds for easy layups.
The Red Devils scored six points to start the second half, breaking the game wide open. The Knights never pulled any closer than sixteen points.
The Knights struggled from the field the entire game, and weren't able to match the Red Devils' hot shooting.
"We've got to finish better," Falkenbach said.
Nonetheless, Falkenbach was pleased with his team's effort against a very strong, senior-laden squad.
"I thought we did a good job defensively in the first half," Falkenbach said. "A couple layups and we're right back in the game in the first half. I can't ask any more from my seven kids. We didn't quit."
