Scott Pergram, Middletown

A four-time state qualifier, Pergram never won a match at the state tournament until his senior year, when he won all of them.

Pergram capped a 32-0 season with an 18-6 victory against Westerville North's Dane Campbell to win the 119-pound AAA state championship.

"I went to state all four years and I'd always get up there and get nervous and choke out," Pergram said.

"Senior year I pretty much tech-falled everybody, maybe three or four weren't tech falls," Pergram continued. "I didn't have a single pin that year. I always felt anybody could get lucky and pin somebody, but if you beat them by 15, it's not luck."

Pergram's state championship capped a 111-8 career and brought on an immediate onslaught of emotions.

"When it was over, I got a little teary-eyed and walked over to both of my coaches (Chuck Warren and Tom Weimer), and we had a little group hug for 15 or 20 seconds," Pergram said. "I still remember all of it. It was the biggest match of my high school career."

Today, Pergram's no longer cutting down opponents, he's just cutting their hair. He owns Scotty's Barbershop in Springboro, and lives in Englewood with his wife Connie and their five children, ages 18 to 2.

Pergram stays close to the sport by volunteering his time in the wrestling room at various high schools.
