Editor's Note: This story and the story below are the final two Q and A's with Middletown coach candidates.

MIDDLETOWN — Jason Krause is one of five finalists for the Middletown High School head football coaching position.

He has coached at Monroe High School for the last four seasons, guiding the Hornets to regional championships in 2005 (Division IV) and 2007 (Division III).

He took time out recently to answer some questions for The Journal:

Question What attracted you to the Middletown job?

Answer The opportunity to coach some great athletes, who are recruited on a national level, in a district that recognizes the importance of athletics, especially football, in a student-athlete's progress. Also, the Glenn "Tiger" Ellison Complex and Barnitz Stadium are special facilities.

Q What is it going to take to return the Middies to a consistently-winning program?

A No. 1, we have to instill a sense of team. They aren't far from it, but we have to get the community behind us to bring back that Middie Pride.

Q What do you think is the biggest challenge of the Middletown job?

A I think getting the community to support the program and understand the importance of Friday nights. We have to become as one.

Q What are your strengths as a coach?

A The relationships I have with the kids and the staff. Also, the expectations I have for the kids. They may be demanding, but they are fair. And I make the game and preparing for the game enjoyable. That's important.

Q Why did you get into coaching?

A I knew in high school I wanted to be a coach. Growing up watching my dad was a big influence, and I just want to make a difference for kids and the community. I love football and the chance to work with guys that have the same philosophy.
