Cougars allow one hit, roll over Greenon

SPRINGFIELD — Kenton Ridge junior Ashley Legge threw a one-hitter to lead the Cougars past host Greenon 11-1 in Central Buckeye Conference softball action on Saturday, May 10.

Legge struck out eight to pick up her 14th win of the season and went 3-for-3 at the plate with a double and a triple, while Kelsey McCrary hit a two-run triple, and Lauren Ault and Caitlin Moody both had two hits each for Kenton Ridge (16-6, 11-4 CBC).

In other softball action:

• Emily Kauffman and Emily Detwiler combined to allow only three hits in 10 innings and Abbey Ledford went 5-for-8 with five RBIs as host West Liberty-Salem won a doubleheader over Riverside 10-0 and 13-1.

Sami Konkle went 3-for-3 with three triples and two RBIs for the undefeated Tigers (25-0) in Game 2.

• Ashlee Anders hit a two-run single and Amber Campbell added an RBI triple to spark a six-run sixth inning as host Shawnee defeated Northeastern 7-3. The Jets scored two runs in the first to snap Kelby Kittles' 17-inning scoreless streak on the mound.

Kylie Ford was 3-for-4 with three RBIs and Mackenzie Moeller and Courtney Long both knocked in two runs as Northeastern (17-8) beat the Braves (14-7) 16-5 in Game 2.

• Mariah Fowler went 4-for-4, and hit game-winning two-run double in the seventh as Graham edged visiting Miami East 7-6. The Vikings beat the Falcons (7-15) in Game 2 9-7.

Baseball

Kenton Ridge's Johnathan McDuffie had three doubles and Derek Toadvine went 2-for-4 as the Cougars (15-5, 11-4 CBC) beat Greenon 9-0.

In other baseball action:

• A walk-off, two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh did in South as the Wildcats lost their final regular-season game 5-3 to host Wayne.

Trey DePriest went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Zack Burks was also 2-for-3 as South finished 4-16 and 1-9 in the Greater Western Ohio Conference Central Division.

• Shawn Haffner knocked in two runs and Carson Dixon tossed a five-hit shutout as visiting Tecumseh blanked Fairborn 3-0. Zach Schwartz and Jordan Crutchfield both had two RBIs and Ryan Tucker went 4-4 as the Arrows (7-15) took Game 2 7-2.

• Freshman T.J. Teets picked up his first win by tossing a four-hit shutout with nine strikeouts as host Triad beat Fairbanks 3-0. The Cardinals (14-9) lost Game 2 5-4.

• Andy Barger went 3-for-4 with a double and pitched a complete game three-hitter as Emmanuel Christian beat Madison Plains 10-1 in the second game of a doubleheader.

Aaron Coffman went 3-for-4 in the first game as the Lions fell 4-3. They finished the regular season 10-11.

Boys tennis

North's Lee Dixon and Ben Yu won gold medals in the silver flight of the GWOC Tournament at Troy High School.

Dixon defeated Josh Fries of Piqua 6-1, 6-0 to win the first singles title. Yu beat Clinton Denlinger of Piqua 6-0, 6-0 to win the third singles title. North finished third with 34 points.
