BASEBALL
MIDDLETOWN CHRISTIAN 9, NEW MIAMI 2: Nate Cox pitched a three-hitter with eight strikeouts for the host Eagles on Tuesday, May 13, as they began Division IV sectional play with a victory. Tyler Kammeron had a double and an RBI for the Vikings (3-14), and Kyle Romans added a double. Top hitters for Middletown Christian (11-9) were Adam Taulbee (two hits, two runs, RBI), Ross Green (double, three RBIs), Marcus Miller (two hits, three RBIs) and Cox (two runs). The Eagles will visit Lockland on Thursday in a sectional semifinal.

JULIENNE 6, FRANKLIN 5:
The host Wildcats scored one run in the bottom of the seventh inning and had the bases loaded with one out Tuesday, May 13, before bowing out in the first round of Division II sectional play. Chris Saporito and Dustin Martin were both 2-for-3 with a double for Franklin (12-11), and Jon Valentine added a double. Chaminade-Julienne improved to 4-15.
HORNETS, SPARTANS SPLIT: Host Monroe and Valley View split a regular-season doubleheader Tuesday, May 13. The first game was the completion of a suspended game, with the Hornets scoring four runs in the eighth inning to win 12-8. J.C. Kellis and winning pitcher Tyler Haskin drove in two runs apiece for Monroe, and Jake Hofer had a double. Izaac Harshberger doubled and scored two runs for the Spartans (18-4). Tyler Jones picked up the victory in the nightcap, a 13-6 Valley View win. Brian Blasik had a double and three RBIs for the winners, while John Raisch drove in two runs. Harshberger, Jones and John Day chipped in a double apiece. Jason Osterman had two RBIs for Monroe (17-8). Both teams begin Division II sectional play today, Valley View at home against Dayton Chaminade-Julienne and the Hornets at home against Oakwood.
SOFTBALL
MIDDLETOWN 13, SYCAMORE 6: The visiting Middies completed their season with a resounding Greater Miami Conference win Tuesday, May 13. Winning pitcher Kayla Wyrick had two doubles and four RBIs, and teammate Brianna Lipscomb went 5-for-5 with three doubles, three RBIs and four runs. Middletown finished 10-14, 6-12 in the GMC. The Aviators are 6-17, 3-15.
BOYS VOLLEYBALL
DAYTON CARROLL 3, EDGEWOOD 2: Bryce Bednorz had 19 kills and Zach Kennedy added 23 assists Tuesday, May 13, for the host Cougars, who dropped a 25-21, 27-25, 17-25, 19-25, 15-10 decision. Jarrod Maynard was a blocking standout for Edgewood (6-16), which visits Hamilton today.
