State champ Luttrell lowers his 3,200 time

Dayton Christian's Walter Luttrell lowered his own Division III state record in the 3,200 meters Saturday, June 14, at Midwest Meet of Champions in Jackson, Mich.

Luttrell, running for the Ohio all-star team, won the event in 8:59.81. The meet featured graduating seniors from Ohio, Michigan and Indiana. Ohio won the boys team title with 184 points to 145 for Indiana and 144 for Michigan.

Trotwood-Madison's Donte Lyons was on the winning 1,600-meter relay team along with Kendall Gregory of Strongsville, Thomas Murdaugh of Dublin Scioto and John Guagenti of Bluffton. They set a meet record of 3:09.39. Lyons was also on the 800 relay team with teammate Chris Burrows, Ryan Jones of Thurgood Marshall and Wael El-Halaby of Cleveland Heights which came in third in 1:29.50.

Jones was fifth in the 100-meters in 10.77. Tommy Marks of Wayne was third in the pole vault, clearing 16-feet.

Mackenzie Wills of Troy Christian won the girls pole vault clearing a meet-record height of 12-9, Michelle Eby of Wayne was third at 12-0. Kathy Dirkson of Marion Local was fourth in the shot put at 41-9 1/2. In the 300 hurdles, Bekah Bonny of Lebanon was second in 44.41 while Cassandra Lloyd was eighth in 47,78. Lloyd was fifth in the 100 hurdles in 15.0. Kelcey McKinney of C-J was fifth in the long jump at 17-11.

Michigan won the girls team title with 201 points. Ohio was second at 149.

• Vandalia Butler's Danny Neff ran in the featured mile Saturday at the Midwest Distance Gala in Lisle, Ill. He came in fourth in 4:11.74. Rob Finnerty of Burnsville, Minn., won the race in 4:01.09 which is No. 7 all-time nationally.
