CROSS COUNTRY

BADIN SOLID AT EATON INVITE: The Badin High School boys and girls cross country teams each earned top-10 finishes in Saturday's Eaton Invitational, held at Fort St. Clair Park, in Eaton. Freshman Lauren Whitaker led the girls team to a ninth-place finish in the 12-team field, finishing 45th overall with a time of 23:26. Adam and Brad Gloyeske finished second and third in the boys race, while teammate Jeff Gambrell finished 19th, to lead the Rams boys contingent to a second-place overall finish. Both squads will compete in the Ohio Catholic Championships, to be held Saturday at Fairmont High School in Kettering.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

TALAWANDA SWEPT IN TRI-MATCH: The Braves lost both their matches on Saturday at a tri-match in Milford. Turpin defeated Talawanda 25-11, 25-18 in the first contest; then Milford won in straight games 25-20, 25-12 in the second match. For the tournament, Natalie Pierce had eight kills, two blocks and nine digs; Carrie Zehler had five digs and two aces; Casey Baxter-Wilms had four kills; Alicia Kimball had four digs; Katie Smith had six assists and Jessica Beckett recorded two blocks. The Braves, now 3-5 overall, play Monday at Lakota East.

LAKOTA WEST LOSES TWO: Host Lakota West lost twice on Saturday in a tri-match event held at the Lakota Freshman Building. Harrison (7-2) defeated West by scores of 15-25, 25-20, 25-23; then undefeated Mercy (8-0) claimed straight games 25-13, 25-17. West will host Centerville on Monday.

GIRLS SOCCER

LAKOTA WEST 2, BEAVERCREEK 0: Kelsie Dreisbach scored off an assist by Devon Ciotti, then Ciotti scored a goal with help from Firebirds teammate Christine Brewer in Saturday's nonleague shutout over Beavercreek. Cassie Linggenhoel recorded the blanking in goal with six saves. West (4-3-1, 2-0-1 Greater Miami Conference) will host Sycamore in GMC action on Tuesday.

CINCINNATI CHRISTIAN 4, WESTERN HILLS 1: No further details were reported.

HAMILTON 2, WEST CARROLLTON 2: Sarah Wright scored both Big Blue goals, with one of those assisted by Hamilton teammate Jessica Spicer, in Saturday's nonleague tie with the Pirates. Hamilton is now 2-6-1 overall and 0-3 in the Greater Miami Conference. They'll return to GMC action Tuesday at Fairfield.

FAIRFIELD 1, MCAULEY 0: Jessica Kleinberg scored off an assist from her twin sister Ashley Kleinberg for the winning goal. Indians goalkeeper Liz Kellum nabbed eight saves to preserve the shutout. Fairfield climbs to 2-5-1 overall and is 1-1 in the Greater Miami Conference. They'll host Hamilton on Tuesday.

BADIN 3, MADEIRA 2: The two top-ranked girls teams in the Cincinnati area went at it on Saturday with visiting Badin coming out on top. Megan Reimer scored all three Rams goals, two of which were assisted by teammates Allie Crossley and Erin Golden. Badin (4-3-1) plays Wednesday at McNicholas. Madeira is now 5-2-2 this season.

SPRINGBORO 1, LAKOTA EAST 0: The visiting Panthers' Brittany Nessle scored on a first-half deflection off a Lakota East defender for the game's only goal Saturday in a nonleague battle. Springboro goalie Mallory Manoni had four saves in the win. East, which falls to 2-4-2 overall, will play at Oak Hills on Tuesday. Springboro is now 5-4-1 this season.

BOYS SOCCER

LAKOTA WEST 0, CENTERVILLE 0: The Firebirds' Mike Girardo had five saves for Lakota West, and the Elks' Dan Wright also had a save on his side of the pitch, to keep their respective teams undefeated this season. West is now 6-0-3 this season while Centerville is 8-0-2.

CINCINNATI CHRISTIAN 5, WESTERN HILLS 2: Dylan Hoop scored five goals, with three assists coming from Jamie Baillie and one each from Chris Stroh and Justin Langhammer, in Saturday's nonleague win. CCS goaltender Jacob Savage recorded six saves in the win. The Cougars (3-4-1) will host Summit Country Day on Thursday. Western Hills is now 2-4.

NORTHWEST 1, HAMILTON 0: Despite solid center midfielder play from Big Blue's Tommy Minnich and Matt Scheve, host Northwest came away with Saturday's narrow win. Hamilton, now 2-4 overall, will host Fairfield in Greater Miami Conference action on Tuesday.

ROSS 4, HARRISON 3: Zach Elam scored twice and teammates Jake Bennett and Matt McCandless scored one apiece to lead the visiting Rams to a narrow nonleague win on Saturday. Alex Oliver, Randy Buelach, Justin Strickland and Chaz Parker supplied assists on the Rams' goals. Ross (4-1-1) hosts Edgewood on Thursday.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

EAST TAKES THREE OF FOUR FROM PANTHERS: Katelyn Wills mashed 15 kills, Stephanie Meltner dished 12 assists, Colleen Krajewski had six blocks and Meredith Garda recorded a career-high 20 digs to lead visiting Lakota East to a 25-19, 26-28, 25-17, 25-11 win Saturday over Springboro. The Thunderhawks are now 6-1 overall while Springboro falls to 6-5.
